Mindfulness

What is mindfulness?

Mindfulness is a term that’s entered the modern lexicon in the last 20 years, as yoga, meditation and therapy have become more common, widespread and openly talked about. It’s a word that is used by various schools of thought to describe a state of heightened awareness where we are more deeply engaged with our own experience, whether that is sitting in meditation, or driving a car, or waiting in line at the grocery store.

Why is mindfulness important?

  • Reduces stress and anxiety

  • Research has shown that mindfulness helps us detach from the stream of constant worry and fear, and allows us to find peace in the present moment.

  • Improves emotional regulation

  • By observing emotions without the need to react impulsively, mindfulness can help train us to respond more thoughtfully to challenging feelings.

  • Enhances Focus and concentration

  • Using these techniques to improve our own ability to be present trains our mind to stay on task and make better decisions. It also makes us more resilient to constant distractions.

  • Promotes better relationships

  • When we are mindful, we are more present with others, leading to deeper connections and improved communication.

  • Boosts Overall Well-Being

  • Mindfulness can help alleviate symptoms of depression, improve sleep, and increase feelings of happiness and contentment.
